Rehab Coach

Rehabilitation support between your physiotherapy appointments

Has a neurological condition or injury changed the way you move, walk, balance or manage everyday activities?

Knowing what you need to do is one thing. Doing your rehabilitation regularly can be another.

Our Rehab Coach provides practical support to help you carry out your physiotherapist-designed rehabilitation programme between appointments.

Your physiotherapist develops and oversees your rehabilitation plan. Your Rehab Coach helps you put that plan into practice — giving you more opportunities to practise, build confidence and stay consistent.

What is a Rehab Coach?

A Rehab Coach is a trained physiotherapy assistant who works under the direction and supervision of your treating physiotherapist.

They can provide practical support with prescribed rehabilitation activities, helping you complete your programme safely and consistently in your own home.

A Rehab Coach is not a physiotherapist and does not replace your physiotherapy appointments. Your physiotherapist remains responsible for your assessment, rehabilitation plan and clinical decisions.

How can a Rehab Coach help?

A Rehab Coach can support you with:

  • Exercise and movement practice – helping you complete your prescribed exercises regularly.

  • Walking and mobility practice – practising walking, transfers and other functional activities.

  • Everyday rehabilitation – working on your programme in your own home and environment.

  • Building confidence – providing encouragement and guidance when exercises or activities feel difficult.

  • Staying consistent – helping you keep your rehabilitation going between physiotherapy appointments.

  • Functional goals – practising the movements and activities that are important to you.

Your Rehab Coach works within the programme established by your physiotherapist and communicates your progress or any concerns back to your treating physiotherapist.

Who might benefit from a Rehab Coach?

A Rehab Coach may be helpful if you:

  • need assistance or guidance to complete your exercises

  • find it difficult to remember or complete your programme independently

  • would benefit from more regular practice between physiotherapy appointments

  • need encouragement or accountability to stay on track

  • would benefit from practising movement or functional activities at home.

Rehab Coach support may be particularly useful when regular practice is an important part of working towards your rehabilitation goals.

How does it work?

Your physiotherapist will first assess your needs and develop an appropriate rehabilitation programme. If Rehab Coach support is suitable, your physiotherapist determines what can safely be delegated and provides clear instructions for your Rehab Coach.

Your Rehab Coach then works with you to carry out the agreed programme, while your physiotherapist continues to monitor your progress and remains available to guide your rehabilitation. This gives you more opportunities to practise the things that matter to you, while keeping your rehabilitation connected to your physiotherapy care.
